Ece Temelkuran was born in Izmir in 1973 and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University in 1995. She began working as a journalist for Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1993. Her book entitled Bütün Kadınların Kafası Karışıktır/All Women are Confused was published in 1996 and another of her books by the name of Oğlum Kızım Devletim - Evlerden Sokaklara Tutuklu Anneleri/My Son, My Daughter, My State: Mothers of Prisoners, Out of the Home and onto the Streets was published in 1997. She received the Chamber of Physicians’ Journalistic Report of the Year for her article called “The Virginity Test is a Crime” published in Cumhuriyet Dergi. Her book İç Kitabı/On the Inside), a volume of prose-poetry, was published by Everest in 2002 and in September of the same year, her third book of prose poetry, Kıyı Kitabı/On the Edge was published. In 2004, the İçeriden/From the Inside and Dışarıdan/From the Outside, collections of her newspaper columns were published. She continues to write the column “Kıyıdan”/From the Edge for the newspaper Milliyet. Ece Temelkuran won the Turkish Physicians’ Union’s Thought and Democracy Award for her book Biz Burada Devrim Yapıyoruz, Sinyorita!/We’re Making a Revolution Here, Signorita!. Following her book Ne Anlatayım Ben Sana!/What Can I Tell You!), published in 2006, Temelkuran’s latest work, Ağrı’nın Derinliği/The Deep Mountain was published by Everest in 2008.
